The theme of this year’s Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade set to step off on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. is Saluting Cowtown – from frontier Soldiers to space frontiers & more.
Participants will form up in the Fort Worth Panther Island Pavilion parking lot, march down North Forest Park Blvd. along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River and return. Everyone can join in our salute to the City of Fort Worth and all military veterans who have, are and will continue to make great contributions.
Fort Worth’s annual Veterans Day celebration began more than 100 years ago as an armistice procession through downtown in 1919 to honor those who had fought in World War I.

PAST
Life in Fort Worth began literally as a U.S. Army outpost on the frontier running through Central Texas. The fertile, game-rich land surrounding the banks of the Trinity River had long been a favorite hunting ground for Native Americans in the area, but it also proved irresistible to settlers as well. PRESENT
With the end of the Cold War and the subsequent downsizing of the American military, the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission of 1991 recommended that Carswell AFB be closed by 1994. Carswell was repurposed as Naval Air Station-Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base (NAS-Fort Worth JRB) in the 1990s. (Click below for more info)
FUTURE
The military remains a significant part of Fort Worth to this day. Carswell Airfield and NAS-Fort Worth JRB still connects the city to its military heritage in a time of rapid diversification and growth.
